The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards 2001
For only the second time, The 411 Online did not attend The Source Awards. Although The 411 debuted in 1994, we didn't have enough pull to even try to cover the event. 1995 at Madison Square Garden in New York City? Check. 1999, when the show was resurrected in Hollywood? You bet we had it covered. 2000, when the event was moved to Pasadena for security reasons, only to have some drama cancel the show early anyway? We were right there in the thick of it. 2001? Well, that's another story. We had our act together this time -- the plane tickets were ordered in advance, the hotel reservations were made and the press passes were on their way. Unfortunately, The Source was so unorganized that they didn't know until June that they were going to switch the location to Miami. Now South Florida is a nice spot, but after weighing our options and thinking about all the trouble we'd have to go through to change our travel plans, we said, 'to hell with it,' and took a vacation in Vegas. They didn't even finish the show last year and managed to waste quite a bit of our time, so we figured we'd sit this one out, see how it goes, and try to make a return trip in 2002. Besides, all the fans ever wanted from our coverage was our Lil' Kim photos, and we got one of those. Now as far as the actual awards go, Nelly won Album of the Year, so it comes as no surprise that he also won New Artist of the Year. The rest of the winners are listed below.
