SNOOP DOGG AND PHARRELL, June 24, 2003

News, reviews, photos, discography

The 411 Online caught up with Snoop Dogg and Pharrell at the 2003 BET Awards.

With everything you have going on -- your record label, your clothing line, your television show, the tour -- what is your biggest challenge?

Snoop: "My biggest challenge is spending time with my family. I'm always busy doing this music, so I'm always out and about. That's my biggest challenge -- trying to figure out how to do that -- and I continually try to spend more time with the family."

You're one of the few artists to have longevity in hip-hop. Why do you think that is and what do you have planned next?

Snoop: "I just try to take my time and think creatively and innovatively. I like to give respect to music. I like going back to the old school. I think me and Pharrell are gonna mix it up again. We're gonna do a little Felipe Wynn -- give you some of that next."

How's the television show on MTV going?

Snoop: "It did pretty well on Sunday, so it comes on every Sunday at 10 p.m. It's doing pretty good. It's called 'Doggy Fizzle Televizzle' and it's off the hizzle."

So a while back you said you gave up smoking, have you stuck with that?

Snoop (singing): "Just give me the light..."

So does that mean you're back at it?

Snoop (singing again): "Just give me the light and pass the 'dro. Thought you wasn't smokin' no more."

OK... so how does it feel to have won the BET Award for best collaboration?

Snoop: "We're both excited, but he can say it better than I can. Holla at 'em, Pharrell."

Pharrell: "It's an honor, man. It's an honor to be able to do what you love to do. You work so hard at it, and you work passionately because you're addicted to doing it. And then the record comes out the way you want it to come out. Then the record company is excited about the song. Then the fans buy the music, and then to get nominated? And then to actually win? (big smile) That's how it feels."
