Sex suit tied to Notorious B.I.G. murder case
A lawsuit that alleges a former LAPD deputy chief gave special treatment for female officers in exchange for sex also claims that the officer in question concealed evidence in the Notorious B.I.G. murder investigation. According to the Associated Press, Sgt. Ya-May Christle filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming she was discriminated against because she was not engaging in sex with Michael Berkow, the former head of the LAPD's professional standards bureau. Christle also claims to have seen two female officers exiting from an office where Berkow kept an air mattress, adding that Berkow left soon after in nothing but a T-shirt and pajama bottoms. The Los Angeles Times reported that unidentified departmental sources told them Berkow sometimes slept in a room at the internal affairs offices after working 18-hour shifts. "The lawsuit claims that Berkow had sexual relations with certain female employees who benefited from that," Christle's attorney, Bradley Gage, told the AP. The suit also alleges that computer records and other evidence being compiled by the sergeant were concealed by Berkow. Gage also represents Biggie's family in a wrongful death lawsuit against the city. B.I.G., whose real name was Christopher Wallace, was shot and killed March 9, 1997, outside the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, where a Soul Train Awards afterparty was being hosted by Vibe magazine. The city's investigation was revived in March. Berkow's lawyer, Clint Robison, told the AP that the claims amounted to "nothing more than a trumped up charge of favoritism. We haven't seen anything from the plaintiff that says, 'I can support these allegations.' All of those allegations have been denied... by the city and the chief."
