React: Is Jay-Z's comeback a good idea?

T.I. leads BET Hip-Hop Awards nominations
T.I., Busta Rhymes and Chamillionaire head the field of nominees for the inaugural BET Hip-Hop Awards, to be hosted by comedian Katt Williams. The show will be taped Nov. 12 at Atlanta's Fox Theatre before airing Nov. 15 on BET at 9 p.m. ET. Williams, Ludacris, Jermaine Dupri and Young Jeezy were on hand in their hometown Thursday (Oct. 12) to announce the nominees during a press conference at the Metropolitan Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. The awards will honor hip-hop artists in 14 different categories, including beat production, lyricism, dance, and film/visual art with four special element awards -- producer of the year, lyricist of the year, hip-hop dance of the year and director of the year. T.I. is up for eight awards, including video of the year and hip-hop track of the year for his single "What You Know," while Busta and Chamillionaire notched six and five nods, respectively. Yung Joc and Lupe Fiasco picked up four. Other multiple contenders include Kanye West, Lil' Wayne and Young Jeezy (three), and Rick Ross, Nelly and Cham (two). The show's performance lineup will feature Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, T.I., Young Dro and Young Jeezy, with additional artists to be announced. Nominees in the best hip-hop movie category are "ATL," starring T.I. and Big Boi of Outkast, "Beef: 3," "Boss'n Up," 50 Cent's "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" and "Waist Deep," co-starring Tyrese and the Game. U.K. artists Dizzee Rascal, Sway, Plan B, Kano, Blak and Twang will compete for best U.K. hip-hop artist. "This show is very much about where hip-hop culture is right now," says Stephen Hill, executive VP of entertainment, music programming and talent for BET Networks. "But we will honor the original four elements of hip-hop and show their connection to today's beats, rhymes and life."
