House of Blunt: One of the best MCs tells it like it is
React: Will you see Rakim on tour?

Rakim returns with tour, new album
Rakim's latest return begins in September with a monthlong tour. According to Pollstar, his trek starts Sept. 1 in Austin, Texas, stops in Chicago on Sept. 17 and ends in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 30. Minneapolis, Detroit, Houston, San Diego, San Francisco, Denver, Atlanta and Charlotte are among the other stops. Rakim also will warm up Aug. 19 at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia. Meanwhile, The R gave a sneak preview of his set at the free Peace Boston concert on Saturday and shared some thoughts on the state of hip-hop. "It's getting too monotonous today," Rakim told the Boston Globe. "I respect the game, and I respect some rappers and where they are taking the game. But hopefully things will start changing up." Rakim's effort to do just that will come in the form of The Seventh Seal, his new album. "It's we the people. Conscious people have to do something. I mean, we've got Bloods and Crips in New York. That's ridiculous, that's 1979. But you know where they get it from? They get it from television, and from rap records. It's a deep situation. It's going to take brothers like me, like yourself, our generation, to start change. Because it's senseless. We have to show them the right way." React: Comment on this story...
