Wyclef Jean named honorary Haiti ambassador
Wyclef Jean has been named a roving ambassador for Haiti, Foreign Affairs Minister Reynald Clerisme announced Thursday. "We have so much to recover from with our bad reputation. With Wyclef, we can gain a lot," Clerisme told the Associated Press. Wyclef's mission will be to promote development within Haiti and represent the country in his travels to other countries. Clerisme said Haiti president Rene Preval chose Wyclef to fill the honorary position in the hopes that he would be able to raise the profile of the nation, which is still recovering from a 2004 rebellion. Wyclef, a Haitian citizen who came to the United States when he was 9, already promotes sports, arts and education through his Yele Haiti foundation.
