Latifah gets Hollywood star
Queen Latifah became the first hip-hop artist to me immortalized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Jan. 4. "I think the reason I am here is to inspire African-American women who are rappers, full-figured women to know that they can do it, too," Latifah, 35, said last Wednesday at the unveiling. Of course, her transition into film helped boost her profile, and someday hopefully an MC with no ties to movies or television will get honored. Latifah made the jump to TV in 1993 on the sitcom "Living Single," and her role in "Chicago" earned her a best supporting actress Oscar nomination in 2002. Latifah's star is the sidewalk's 2,298th. Latifah next stars with L.L. Cool J in "Last Holiday."
