Raptors cut Master P
No Limit CEO Master P was waived by the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday, Oct. 27, one
game short of a full preseason. P, a.k.a. Percy Miller, was a hit with fans despite averaging
2.2 points and 4 minutes in six exhibition games with Toronto. In his best game,
a 110-84 rout of the Vancouver Grizzlies in Edmonton, Miller scored eight points
in eight minutes, making both of his 3-point attempts and inspiring fans to chant
his name. However, he often seemed overmatched against the best basketball players
in the world, and he could not duplicate the success of that game in his
final three appearances for the Raptors. Toronto's final preseason game is on Thursday against Denver.
On Tuesday in Toronto's 116-104 victory over Cleveland, P entered the game with 1:34 to play and made two free throws,
hit the side of the backboard on a driving layup and missed a shot after the buzzer.
P played just one minute and missed his only shot -- a 3-pointer -- in the Toronto Raptors' 98-86
victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday.
It was the first 3-point field goal that P has missed in the preseason. He was 3-for-3 from long range
in his first three appearances for the Raptors.
In Toronto's 95-93 preseason loss to the Dallas
Mavericks on Thursday, P made his longest appearance of the preseason (10 minutes) and went 1-for-1
from 3-point range (0-for-3 inside the arc). His jumper gave the Raptors a 91-80 lead with 2:47 left to play,
but Robert Pack scored nine of his 19 points in a 15-2 run -- including a 15-foot
jumper as time expired -- to give Dallas the win.
P's best performance so far was Monday night in Edmonton. He scored eight points in eight minutes for the Raptors in their first preseason win, a 110-84 rout
of the Vancouver Grizzlies.
P was inserted into the
lineup in the fourth quarter after the Raptors took a comfortable lead.
After committing a turnover and having two of his shots blocked on ill-advised one-on-one moves,
Miller made both of his 3-point attempts and drove for a scoop layup, much to the delight of the crowd.
Though he's said to be worth about $400 million, with his own label, No Limit Records, and a financial interest
in a sports agent business, No Limit Sports, the 29-year-old has had to carry
the bags of some of the veterans during training camp.
An all-state high school player in Louisiana, the 6-4 guard's collegiate career
at Houston was brief. He was waived by the Charlotte Hornets during camp last season.
Before signing with the Hornets, he was with the CBA's Fort Wayne Fury.
Miller is an acquaintance of Toronto coach Butch Carter and is expected to be
released this week. But with a few more solid performances, you never know. Stay tuned to The 411 Online for more updates...
